W.A.F.F.L. Rules
| 1 | The League Competition |
| 1.1 | Teams will be divided into a maximum of four divisions, each division containing a maximum of 16 teams. |
| 1.2 | Each team within a given division will play every other team in that division twice during the season on a home and away basis - i.e. the league season will run for a maximum of 30 weeks. |
| 1.3 | Points will be awarded on the basis of three for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. |
| 1.4 | Cash prizes will be awarded to the teams finishing first, second and third in each division. Prizes will also be paid to fourth-placed teams if there are sufficient entries. |
| 1.5 | If two or more teams within a division are level on points, league positions will be decided based on goal difference. If teams are still level, positions will be decided based on goals scored. If teams are still level, positions will be decided based on the aggregate score from the matches involving the relevant teams. If teams are still level I will try to separate them with a crow-bar and then, if all else fails, positions will be decided by payment of a suitable bung. |
| 1.6 | Depending on the number of entries, cash prizes may also be awarded on a monthly basis (or thereabouts) to the “Manager of the Month” - i.e. the person whose team has the best league record for the relevant month. For the purpose of the MOTM awards, a month will be deemed to be the period between two transfers. |
| 1.7 | All prize moneys (including monthly prizes) will be paid out at the end of the season. |
| 1.8 | All entry fees for the season must be paid in full in advance. |
| 1.9 | The top teams from each division will also win free entry into the following season’s Loads–A–Money (LAM) competition. The exact criteria for LAM qualification may vary from season to season and full details will be published on this web-site at the begining of each WAFFL season. |
| 1.10 | Promotion and relegation between divisions will be primarily based on the principal of three up & three down. |
| 1.11 | Entry into LAM is conditional upon entry into the same season’s WAFFL – i.e. if a manager qualifies for LAM but chooses not to enter WAFFL then their LAM place will be forfeit and no cash alternative will be paid. |
| 2 | Team Composition |
| 2.1 | Each team must consist of four components (a goalkeeper, a defence, a midfield and an attack) drawn from the teams in the English Premier League - e.g. your starting team line-up could consist of Arsenal as goalkeeper, Newcastle in defence, Liverpool in midfield and Chelsea in attack. |
| 2.2 | At specified times during the season (approximately once per month) all teams must transfer (i.e. change) two team components. The specific components which must be transferred each month will be detailed in the fixture lists. |
| 2.3 | Each entrant may use each Premier League side only once during the season - e.g. if you start the season with Arsenal as goalkeeper, you may not use Arsenal to represent you for any other component during the season. |
| 2.4 | Any contestant failing to register transfers by the specified deadlines will be allocated two new teams at random from those still available to them. Once teams have been allocated the transfer will be deemed to be complete – i.e. the randomly allocated teams may not be changed and will be unavailable for the remainder of the season. |
| 2.5 | Transfers may be registered in advance (e.g. if you are going away on holiday/business/mucky weekend/whatever) but will only take effect on the scheduled dates. |
| 2.6 | Transfers which have been registered in advance may be altered at any time up to the relevant transfer deadline. |
| 3 | Goalscoring |
| 3.1 | The number of goals scored by your team in any week will be determined based on the performance of the relevant components in the corresponding Premier League fixtures as follows: |
| 3.2 | Each goal scored by the team providing your midfield and attacking components adds one goal to your score for the week. |
| 3.3 | Each goal conceded by your goalkeeper or defence components reduces your score by one goal. |
| 3.4 | To simulate “home advantage”, away teams are automatically handicapped by one goal - i.e. they start the match with a score of -1. |
| 3.5 | To determine the number of goals scored by your fantasy team, add the number of goals scored by your attack and midfield teams and subtract the number of goals conceded by your defence and goalkeeper teams. If you are the away team in the WAFFL fixture subtract one additional goal. The resulting total is the number of goals scored by your WAFFL team. The number of goals scored by your opponent is calculated in the same way based on their own team composition. |
| 3.6 | If either team ends up with a negative score, the appropriate number of goals will be added to both sides such that the negative score becomes 0. |
| 3.7 | In the event of a scheduled Premier League match being postponed or abandoned, I will log the latest score from the affected WAFFL matches and then complete the scoring when the relevant matches are eventually played. |
| 3.8 | In the event of a Premier League match being played earlier than scheduled I will adjust the fixture list as I deem necessary and will inform all participants accordingly. |
| 4 | The WAFFL Cup Competition |
| 4.1 | The format and rules of the Cup competition may vary from season to season depending on the number of teams involved. The following rules cover the competition for the 2010/2011 season. |
| 4.2 | There will be a single cup competition covering all divisions. |
| 4.3 | The competition will consist of a preliminary group stage followed by a traditional knock-out stage. |
| 4.4 | For the group stage, teams will be divided into six groups of seven teams. |
| 4.5 | During the group stage each team will play every other team in their group twice - i.e. on a home and away basis. Points will be awarded as per regular league fixtures. |
| 4.6 | At the end of the group stage the top two teams in each group will qualify for the knock-out stage along with the two remaining teams with the next best overall records. |
| 4.7 | Knock-out stage matches will be played over two legs (i.e. home and away basis) to determine an aggregate score and each round will be drawn randomly. |
| 4.8 | If aggregate scores are level after the second leg the teams will play a single replay on neutral ground (i.e. with neither side having the standard away team’s one goal handicap). There will be no "away goals" rule. |
| 4.9 | If the replay ends in a draw then the winners will be determined by a penalty shoot-out. Each team's penalty score will be determined by totalling the following until a result is achieved:
|
| 4.10 | Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up. |
| 4.11 | Goalscoring for cup matches will be based on Premier League matches as specified in the WAFFL league schedule. |
| 5 | How to Enter |
| 5.1 | To enter, please follow the instructions on the Home page. |
| 5.2 | In return, at the relevant times I will provide: |
| A full list of teams and managers for all four divisions. | |
| A full fixture list for all divisions (including cup dates) for the season. | |
| The Premier League fixtures for the corresponding dates. | |
| Transfer dates and details. | |
| A deadline for selecting your team for the opening fixtures. | |
| 5.3 | Once I have received all starting line-ups, I will collate the information and issue a full list of team line-ups for all divisions. |
| 5.4 | Each week I will post the results and league tables for all divisions along with a brief summary of the week's results. |
| 5.5 | Each month I will post a list of transfer activities for all divisions and the name of the “Manager of the Month”. |
| 6 | The Prizes |
| 6.1 | The confirmed list of prizes will be posted on this site before the start of the season. |
| 6.2 | Prize monies may be paid in different currencies upon request. The exact value of the prizes paid in this way will be determined based on the Sterling exchange rates prevailing at that time. |
| 7 | The Only Rule Worth Remembering |
| 7.1 | In the event of any dispute or confusion, I am right and you are wrong. |
