News from the world of WAFFL

Eight weeks into the Premier League season so that means most of us have completed four league and four cup games. Still no news of when the outstanding Spurs v Everton match will be played – but presumably they’ll get round to it eventually.

In Division One reigning champions Ethynol Rangers lead the way on 9 points – but only on goal difference over Varns Vagges who have played a game fewer and still have their 100% record intact. At the bottom, Dimi’s Crusaders are the only team yet to register a point.

The Firm F.C. lead Division Two on 12 points, although both Bruce Almighty and The International Team Salwa also have 100% records having only completed three games apiece. Three teams in this division are still pointless – Logan’s Run from three games while Kuwait Hearts and What’s Going On? have both lost four out of four.

WAFFL newcomers The Schmidtkickers are the early leaders in Division Three after a perfect start to the season – again Abu Dhabi Rovers are three points behind having played a game less. Bottom two Philbert & Wanderus and Manilla Magic are both pointless and goalless thus far.

I won’t go into detail on the latest Cup Group standings – suffice to say it’s a marathon, not a sprint blah blah blah.

An early word of warning – the transfer deadline for Phase 4 originally scheduled for New Year’s Eve has been brought forward by a day due to the Liverpool v Newcastle United game also being brought forward. Also, the actual timing of transfer deadlines now has been changed to 12:00 UK time instead of 07:00.

Loads-A-Money Week 4

Four games into this season’s competition – and we already have one qualifier for the quarter-finals.

Group 1 leaders Ethynol Rangers lost their 100% record in Week 4 with a 4-1 defeat at the hands of The Auckland but are still well placed to qualify with a three-point lead over lead The Auckland and Be Champions.

Ruff Rovers continue to head Group 2 on 8 points but are just a point clear of Degsie’s Demons who themselves are two ahead of The Chairmen. Still plenty to play for in this one!

Speaking of plenty to play for – Group 3 remains the definitive Group of Death with all four teams locked on 6 points. I can see this one being decided in the car-park!

Back to those early qualifiers mentioned above – and it’s Road To Nowhere who continue to power on in Group 4 with the only remaining 100% record. Second placed Connecticut Huskies look certain to join them in the knock-out phase with 7 points to their names – 4 ahead of Varns Vagges in third place.

Next fixtures are on Tuesday 18th/Wednesday 19th October and once again the transfer deadline for this round is at 17:55 BST on Tuesday to accommodate the early kick-off in Moscow between CSKA and Trabzonspor.

ShotsTalk Pontoon Game 1 Result

Congratulations to Tilershot who lifts the first Pontoon of the season courtesy of Morecambe being first to the magical 21-point mark. Tilershot gets to choose between a year’s subscription to Premium Shots and a year’s subscription to Cash For Shots.

Game 2 will start on Saturday October 8th. Super!

ShotsWeb Challenge – post Accrington away

Shall we have a quick update while we’re waiting for ManU ticket details to be announced? Yeah – why not!

Saturday’s defeat at Accy was a disappointment in terms of predictions as well as league points – but Danny’s brace coupled with a predictably low crowd meant there were still a few points around.

14 games into the season and Maxster leads the table with 61 points, just one point ahead of StanleyW and Jet_Set_Willy who in turn are one point ahead of 4th-placed Nobby. All about as tight as you’d like it!

The previous week’s highly disappointing defeat to Creepy Crawley was the bonus match for September – but with nobody scoring the required minimum of 9 points the kitty rolls over to October when a total of £15.00 worth of Pontoon entries will be up for grabs.

Loads-A-Money Week 3

This week saw the start of the group stage of the Champions League – but the LAM group stage reached the halfway mark.

Ethynol Rangers continue to lead the way in Group 1 with maximum points while the other three teams in the group are locked on 3 points each.

In Group 2 Ruff Rovers are closing in on a quarter-final place with 7 points to their name- but The Chairmen and Degsie’s Demons are also both well in contention after their 0-0 stalemate in Week 3.

Real Salwagoza and Cloughies Red Nose now lead Group 3 on 6 points each – but it’s definitely still all to play for in this season’s official GOD.

Road To Nowhere head Group 4 with a 100% record and look good for the next round. Connecticut Huskies and Varns Vagges appear to be battling between them for runners-up spot.

Next fixtures are on Tuesday 27th/Wednesday 28th September. Transfer deadline for this round is at the earlier time of 17:55 BST on Tuesday 27th due to the early kick-off in Moscow between CSKA and Inter.

ShotsTalk Pontoon Game 1 – Week 8

Eight games now gone – and the finishing line may not be too far away. Tilershot (Morecambe) now leads the way on 17 goals followed by Mrs Zippy (Creepy) on 15 and Paul4shots (Cheltenham Town) on 12.

Still a couple of people yet to pay – it would be a shame to reach 21 only to find you’ve been disqualified!

ShotsWeb Challenge – post Hereford away

Great result for the lads at Hereford on Tuesday  – although having gone for 1-0 in the Challenge with Ranks as scorer I’m not really sure we needed to chase the second goal like that. ;-)

Still – happy days as I continue to lead the table, largely due to getting the Chelmsford attendance spot on. Maxster is two points behind in second and then there’s a gap of four points to early-season leader StanleyW and reigning champion Jet_Set_Willy.

Early days – but I’m quietly confident of winning my crown back. 8-)

ShotsTalk Pontoon Game 1 – Week 5

After 5 games we have our first team past the half-way mark and into double figures – and it’s our old friends Creepy Crawley who, in Pontoon terms, are owned by Mrs Zippy. Morecambe (Tilershot) are currently second with nine goals to their name and then there are four teams on eight. A couple of you haven’t yet coughed up your entry fees – so please do so a.s.a.p.

ShotsWeb Challenge 2011 update

Seven games in so time for another quick update. Suffice to say that results haven’t really gone to plan so far in the league – although the cup wins are making up for that somewhat! It’s all very tight at the top of the table but the current leader by a single point is Zippy on 29. Myself and Sergio Forward are joint second and then there’s a two-point gap to Popcorn in fourth.

Saturday sees the visit of Cheltenham Town to the EBB – sounds like a good time to open the home account for the season.

The bonus game for August was the 0-1 defeat to Torquay. Nobody came even close to achieving the 8 points needed to win the prize so it rolls over to September’s bonus game which is the home game against Creepy Crawley. I’m not allowed to say when that will take place – but it’s on the last Saturday of the month and the day before that is Friday 23rd. You’ll have to work out the kick-off time for yourself!

Loads-A-Money – the story so far

Two weeks gone in this season’s Loads-A-Money and in UEFA terms it’s time for the big boys to join the party as the Champions League Group Stage kicks in.

In LAM only two teams have managed to win both of their games so far – Ethynol Rangers in Group 1 and Road To Nowhere in Group 4. Early days – but both will fancy their chances of progressing, while Logan’s Run (Group 1) and Bruce Almighty (Group 2) have it all to do after losing both opening fixtures. Group 3 looks like being this season’s official “Group Of Death” as all four teams currently have one win to their names.

Next fixtures are on Tuesday 13th/Wednesday 14th September. Transfer deadline for this round is 19:40 BST on Tuesday 13th.
