ShotsWeb Challenge update – Shrewsbury 3 Shots 1

October 27th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in ShotsWeb, ShotsWeb Challenge

It’s a game of three halves – well, three half-hours anyway. For the first half-hour on Saturday things looked pretty good as Louie Soares’ goal gave Shots the lead at Shrewsbury. What happened after that is becoming all too familiar.

The defeat came as no surprise to most of us – although maxster’s bold prediction of a draw gave Jet_Set_Willy a chance to draw level at the top of the Challenge on 83 points. Winchmore_Hill_Shot remains third on 70 but the chasing pack have closed the gap, notably M_Wiseman who notched an impressive 10 points for the fixture.

Next up is another tricky away fixture at Rotherham. Shots did well at the Don Valley Stadium last season but you’d have to think that the chances of Jason Dodd opening his managerial points accountare pretty slim.

WAFFL – Cup 2nd Round, 1st Leg

October 20th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in WAFFL

Last night’s 2-0 win for Fulham completed the weekend’s Premier League fixtures – and, of course, the WAFFL Cup 2nd Round 1st Leg fixtures. A few teams already seem fairly certain of progressing – biggest winners were 8th of May who thrashed Weddell’s Wanderers 6-0 while both Ibrox Reserves and Kuwait Hearts won 5-0. Only one team turned round a first leg deficit in Round 1 – but there are a lot of close ties this time round so still plenty to play for in the 2nd leg fixtures which will be on the weekend of November 7th.

Back to league action this weekend – but first up there is the small matter of transfers to be made, the changes this time being defence and attack.

Pontoon Update – Game 2 Week 2

October 19th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in ShotsWeb, ShotsWeb Pontoon

An interesting spread of goals means that after just two weeks of Game 2 everyone is off the mark. Shots may have lost their unbeaten record to Bury but their 2 goals means that DAVE AT HARLOW is the early leader on 6 goals. Bury themselves (Richard Llanwarne) are second on 5 and then come a bunch of clubs on 4.

ShotsWeb Challenge update – Shots 2 Bury 3

October 19th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in ShotsWeb, ShotsWeb Challenge

An eventful week for the Shots saw “Fortress EBB” breached by the Northern invaders from Bury who probably thought they were due 3 points after blowing that 3-0 lead last season.

Eventful in the ShotsWeb Challenge as well as maxster returned to the top of the table with a 6-point haul, largely due to a very close guess on the attendance.  maxster has 79 points – one ahead of Jet_Set_Willy who then has an 11 point lead over Winchmore_Hill_Shot.

Saturday’s game was the bonus fixture for October but nobody managed the 9 points required to lift the prize so the £10 rolls over to November.

Two tough looking away games coming up with Shrewsbury Town first on Saturday followed by high-flying Rotherham United the following week. That said, Shrews gave Darlington their first win of the season on Saturday and last season we won both fixtures at the Don Valley Stadium so there is always hope!

ShotsWeb Challenge update – Shots 4 Morecambe 1

October 15th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in ShotsWeb, ShotsWeb Challenge

I don’t know – back-to-back 4-1 home wins, management teams out, management teams in – it’s all too much for me!

Consolidation was the name of the game for Jet_Set_Willy as a 6-point haul took his tally to 76 and opened the lead over maxster to 3 points. Winchmore_Hill_Shot is third on 63, closely followed by ben_elton on on 59.

Bury at home on Saturday – a tough fixture for Jason Dodd and Paul Williams to show their credentials – and then it’s two consecutive (tough) away games at Shrewsbury and Rotherham. By the time Macclesfield roll into town we could be on our third managerial team of the season – although we’ve got an FA Cup match to come before then.

Come on you Shots!

Gary who? ;-)

ShotsWeb Challenge update – Hereford 2 Shots 2

October 8th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in ShotsWeb, ShotsWeb Challenge

Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw at Hereford in the Johnstone’s Paint Pot saw a new name take over at the top of the leaderboard as Jet_Set_Willy picked up 7 points to move onto 70 overall. Maxster drops to second on 67 and then there’s a 15 point gap back to Winchmore_Hill_Shot in third.

Wednesday night then saw the HSC game against Romsey which resulted in a 6-0 win for what was effectively our youth team. I have not yet seen an attendance figure for this game so have not posted the result. If I don’t see an attendance by the week-end I will log it as zero and we’ll just have points for the result and goalscorer (well, those who selected Mekki will get points for the goalscorer!).

I will not be using any further HSC games in the Prediction League.

WAFFL – Weeks 5 and 6

October 8th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in WAFFL

Just realised I didn’t post an update for Week 5 – so here’s two for the price of one!

Ethynol Rangers lost their 100% record in Week 5 with a 3-3 draw against Riyadh Surfer – but a 3-0 victory over reigning champions Dimi’s Crusaders in Week 5 means they remain top of Division One. Real Salwagoza are second, just one point behind the leaders on 12 points, and then comes a host of teams on 9 points. At the bottom, Mesolithic Albion FC finally opened their account with a 1-0 win over Titi Floats On in Week 5 but remain bottom of the table on goal difference behind Scruffy’s BarBarians and Igrox Athletic

Salwa Knackeredemicals have moved to the top of Division Two with 12 points from 5 games, two points ahead of The International Team Salwa. Early leaders The Bastard Sons of Peter Beardsley have dropped to fourth on goal difference behind Why Do Fools?. At the bottom, Jone Salat Bangkok are already starting to slip away from the pack, still with just one point to their name.

The only team in all three divisions still with a 100% record after five games is Kuwait Hearts who lead Division Two by three points from Road To Nowhere. Logan’s Run and DC United bring up the rear in this division with just three points each – DC United having the dubious honour of bottom spot courtesy of goal difference.

This weekend sees the first leg games of the Cup Round Two fixtures with the second legs being held on November 7th – and then next week is the second transfer deadline of the season.

With no further league games in Phase Two the Manager Of The Month awards have been determined – and the honours (along with £10 each) go to:

  • Gary Green (Cloughie’s Red Nose)
  • Russell Hogg (Salwa Knackeredemicals)
  • Martyn Stein (Kuwait Hearts)

Loads-A-Money Week 4 Results

October 5th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in Loads-A-Money

Last week’s results saw the first team definitely through to the quarter-finals – and the first team definitely eliminated from the competition.

In Group 1 reigning champions The Firm F.C. took another big step towards qualification with a narrow 3-2 win over Scruffy’s BarBarians. The Bastard Sons of Peter Beardsley are second in the group following their 0-0 draw with Salwa Knackeredemicals but there is still plenty to play for with just three points covering the top three teams.

Be Champions are the first team to qualify for the knock-out stage. They lead Group 2 with a 100% record after beating Bneid Al-Seaside 4-1. Igrox Athletic Reserves defeated Titi Floats On in the other game to draw level on points with Bneid – while their opponents are rock bottom with 0 points and nothing but pride left to play for. A sad come-down after reaching last season’s final!

Qarasina al Oman remain hot favourites to progress from Group 3 despite being thrashed 8-0 at home by Mesolithic Albion FC. They were helped by second-placed The Chairmen slipping up by 2-3 against Fircombe Hall. All four teams in this group could still qualify.

In Group 4 both Dimi’s Crusaders and Igrox Athletic are on the verge of qualification after comfortable wins in Week 4 over Ibrox Reserves and What’s Going On? respectively. One of the top two will definitely qualify – and it would take a bizarre sequence of results to prevent them both reaching the quarter-finals.

The early kick-off between Rubin Kazan and Inter Milan caught me by surprise and meant that this game finished while team selections were still in progress. I won’t be falling for that one again – so please note that the transfer deadline for the quarter-finals (for those of you still involved) will be at the earlier time of 17:25 on Tuesday, 24th November.

Next fixtures are on Tuesday 20th/Wednesday 21st October – and should see a few more quarter-final places sorted out.

Pontoon Update – Week 11 – They think it’s all over ….

October 5th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in ShotsWeb, ShotsWeb Pontoon

…. and if they’re thinking about Pontoon Game 1 then they are right! Congratulations to Richard Llanwarne who finally saw Dagenham & Redbridge pick up their 21st goal of the season to lift the first set of shares. The chasing pack had been closing in for a couple of weeks but Daggers’ late equaliser at Hereford meant it was all too little too late.

Game 2 will hopefully start on Saturday …..

ShotsWeb Challenge update – Lincoln 1 Shots 0

October 5th, 2009 by Andrew Chillman in ShotsWeb, ShotsWeb Challenge

Saturday saw an end to Shot’s recent unbeaten run – and also saw a new name at the top of the Prediction League.  Maxster remains on 63 points following a blank weekend but is joined by Jet_Set_Willy who managed a whole 1 point for predicting we would score a goal. Not much action behind them either – although one or two heretics did pick up points for predicting a Lincoln win.

Johnstone’s Paint Pot action tomorrow – super!
