ShotsWeb Challenge – Oops! It finished!
Oh dear – just realised I never updated this page with the final results. Never mind!
Congratulations to Maxster who won by the proverbial country mile to win the title for the second time in four years. Jet_Set_Willy and Harry Palmer finished second and thid respectively – just as they did last season.
Next season’s fixtures will be out shortly so I’ll soon be accepting registrations for the coming season. Bring it on!

ShotsWeb Challenge – Anybody still interested?
Maxster leads, Jet_Set_Mango is second, Harry Palmer third (not a lot of people know that). zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Saturday’s 2-0 defeat of Shrewsbury was the bonus game for March and we finally had a winner in the form of petespics - who “pics” up £40 courtesy of it being a triple-rollover. Super.
Two more away games coming up – and the Shots continue to be totally unpredictable!
ShotsWeb Challenge update – Shots 0 Burton 2
Three matches since the last update – and despite Shots having won two of them I really don’t know where we are going at the moment. Yesterday’s dismal home defeat to Burton was a truly appalling display – and with the likes of Shrewsbury and Rotherham losing, a real opportunity missed.
Still, if it’s consistency you want then the Prediction League is the place to come as Maxster continues to rack up the points on a regular basis (although yesterday was a rare poor day). With the lead now up to 33 points I think it’s safe to say that the rest of us are playing for second place – currently held by Jet_Set_Willy who is 9 points clear of third-placed Harry Palmer.
A bunch of tough away games coming up – what’s the betting we win the lot?
ShotsWeb Challenge update – Shots 2 Daggers 3
Apologies for the lack of recent updates but it’s hard to motivate myself when we’re doing pants on the pitch. It’s even harder when Maxster continues to piss this tinpot prediction league!
The gap at the top is now 30 points – if it was a boxing match it would have been stopped by now. Jet_Set_Willy has the dubious honour of being second best, closely followed by a bunch of chancers and also-rans. I really need to get some fresh blood in for next season – as of now none of you losers can expect to have your contracts renewed.
We’ve had a couple of bonus games since I last posted – and guess what? Yep – nobody came even close to winning the dosh. Get a grip – there’s now £40 riding on the March bonus game (v Shrewsbury).
Still – it could be worse. We could be three months away from the World Cup and England’s entire defence could be permanently injured / in disgrace / not playing anymore.
Oh, hang on ………..
World Cup 2010 – Let’s get this party started!
OK – the first matches are now barely 5 months away and it’s time to start up the World Cup hype machine. We all have to do our part – so I’m doing mine by opening up the World Cup Challenge 2010 for registrations. Woo-hoo! Entry costs a mere twenty quid and I also accept payment in Euros, US Dollars, Green Shield Stamps and shiny coloured glass beads. You can register here – but only if you really want to! If any of your mates have more money than sense feel free to invite them along.
I can’t wait to see the Ingerlund squad on Top Of The Pops singing their fab(io) World Cup song !
p.s. – If you have any problems registering (or with other areas of the site) please email me using the links on the web-site or reply to this post.
ShotsWeb Challenge update – Shots 1 Tranmere 2
Shots’ dreams of a rematch with Wolves disappeared on Tuesday with a 2-1 defeat against League One strugglers Tranmere. This followed on from Saturday’s narrow 1-0 victory over Chesterfield which pushed us up to 6th place in the league.
Maxster continues to forge ahead in The Challenge and with 132 points is now 16 clear of second-placed Jet_Set_Willy. Winchmore_Hill_Shot is a further 9 points behind in 3rd, 3 ahead of ben_elton who is this season’s 4th contestant to break the 100 point barrier.
Back to league action on Saturday with the trip to Burton – traditionally a happy hunting ground for Shots.
It’s coming home to South Africa ……..
That’s right – the preliminaries are over, the ridiculously elaborate draw has been made and the wallcharts have been prepared (unless you’re a total slacker). Now it’s time to start the countdown in earnest!
Between June 11th and July 11th next year a total of 64 matches will be played during the World Cup Finals in South Africa. Some of the best footballing nations in the World will be there – and so will England! Your challenge, should you choose to accept, is to forecast the correct score in all 64 matches. Piece of cake I’d say – but even if you don’t manage to get all 64 matches spot on you’ll still earn points for getting close.
Usual rules apply – and it’s all strictly pay-to-play. In 2006 we had 39 mugs and the top prize went to Dave Pierce – so there’s hope for us all!
Registrations will be open soon – or you can email me to pre-register if the excitement’s all too much for you!
Don’t be a World Cup Willy – get yourself registered today, safe in the knowledge that the competition will still hold some interest for you even after Ingerlund have succumbed on penalties to a bunch of cheating dago foreigners! Where else could you have this much fun for a mere twenty quid without getting arrested?
‘Ere we go, ‘ere we go, ‘ere we go!
ShotsWeb Challenge update – Daggers 2 Shots 5
Well that woke me up! Obviously someone must have found the map showing the route to goal shoved down the back of the settee!
Suffice to say that none of us saw that coming in terms of score predictions – but a few of us came close on the attendance. Maxster moves on to 120 points and now leads Jet_Set_Willy by 8. Winchmore_Hill_Shot remains 3rd on 103 with Harry Palmer and ben_elton now joint 4th on 91.
Two home games in a row now as we take on first Chesterfield Town in the league followed by Tranmere Rovers in the Cup replay.
ShotsWeb Challenge update – Tranmere Rovers 0 Shots 0
Blimey – yet another 0-0 draw – our 4th in 6 games! zzzzzzzzzzzz
To be fair, in between the County and Rovers matches we did manage to blag three points courtesy of a 2-1 win over Northampton – but it looks like the “goals, goals, goals” days are well and truly gone!
In terms of the Challenge, the Cobblers game was also the November Bonus Match and the £20 roll-over prize went to current overall leader maxster who racked up an impressive 12 points thanks largely to getting the attendance bang on. That was followed up by another 8-point haul from Saturday’s match at Tranmere and the lead at the top is now seven points over Jet_Set_Willy, with Winchmore_Hill_Shot a further 8 points adrift. These three are the only contestants above the 100 point mark so far – and WHS has a 14 point lead over Harry Palmer and M_Wiseman who are joint 4th on 88.
Back to league action tonight with a trip to high-flying Dagenham & Redbridge. Personally I’d settle for another 0-0 stalemate – but then I’ve always been easily pleased!
